Years ago, I heard from the Holy Spirit “go beyond the threshing floor”. I didn’t know what that really meant and, honestly, I just had a wildfire faith that wherever I was going all I needed was air in my lungs, ground beneath my feet, and He would provide the rest…so whatever that meant, it would be good for me.
Threshing is a term used throughout the Word of God that theologically has many interpretations. Threshing and harvest are significant agricultural processes in the Bible, often used metaphorically to convey spiritual truths and divine principles. These processes can be seen in the book of Ruth, Gideon, king David, Isaiah, John the Baptist, and most importantly the words of Jesus in the parable of the sower and the parable of the weeds. And they can be seen today if one has the eyes to see and the ears to hear.
First, let’s reason together. This is the Greek and then the Hebrew explainations in Strongs Lexicon.
halón: Threshing floor
Original Word: ἁλών
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: halón
Pronunciation: hah-LONE
Phonetic Spelling: (hal’-ohn)
KJV: floor
NASB: threshing floor
Word Origin: [probably from the base of G1507 (εἱλίσσω – To roll up)]
1. a threshing-floor (as rolled hard)
2. (figuratively) the grain (and chaff, as just threshed)
Threshing falls in July, giving this month the names ‘Αλωνάρης, Ἁλωνιάτης, and ‘Αλωνιστής (‘Thresher’). [1] The shocks of wheat are transferred from the heap to the communal threshing-floor (ἁλώνι) [2] and planted erect in a circle, and then unbound.

NASB: threshing, thresh, threshed, trodden down, continue to thresh, thrash, trample
Word Origin: [a primitive root]
1. to trample or thresh
Strong’s Exhaustive Concordancebreak, tear, thresh, tread out down, at grass Jer
Or dowsh {dosh}; or diysh {deesh}; a primitive root; to trample or thresh — break, tear, thresh, tread out (down), at grass (Jer. 50:11, by mistake for deshe’).
Threshing. The word itself does not sound like much *adventure*, does it? It sounds quite….painful.
Soooo, now, in reality. Not just His voice directing me — I sit here quite weak with only a hum of “this lil light of mine” in my heart. The thought of “this will be good for me” was probably the worse lie I could have told myself. Jesus even says, “no one is good but God”. God IS Good. God is Creator. God is Soverign. So, whatever “this” is-is IT God? Who does one worship? God? false god/self? success? money? family?
God is after the hearts of man! No man knows the end of time for them, personally, or for the collective man. Sovereign God has kindly given us “time” for our purpose. Our bodies breathe 30,000 times a day and yet, we take that for granted and make our own schedules. Did we first bow to the god of this world and make God a genie? We all have our own purposes, yes, but we should seek God above all things. ALL THINGS.
Reapers according Jesus:
“and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age.” (Matthew)
“Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return. The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Galations) Many people would process this concept from Hinduism or Buddhism by “karma” — either way, it’s the Most High Sovereign God’s rule that makes all the other gods sit under His feet.
Threshing in the spiritual you will have war against your own flesh because you are fighting not like this world teaches fighting. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” So, in threshings you will have war against the principalities, abiding in Jesus Christ is the only solution through it, seeking how He handled it in the wilderness. There is so much in this world that wants to rule over, power over, push over, and set up above the throne of God.
I have a tattoo on the right ring finger — a cross with a vine. It serves as a reminder to my flesh that I am not my own. I was purchased by my first estate at a high cost and my worth by His sacrifice is unimaginable sacrifice from unconditional love. Jesus Christ tells us: I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5). I believe Him.
So, to those that maybe have never met a fruit inspector: what does it mean “bears much fruit?” Our Spiritual health can be described by ““the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Gal. 5:22-23) Should we be spiritual fruit inspectors? Yes, scripture tells us to judge small matters. However, this means starting with OURSELVES FIRST, then we can look to someone else’s spiritual fruit and help them. Scripture also warns us “bad company corrupts good morals”. For example, real fruit that has been left to rot, put side by side to a fresh fruit, will spread rot to the fresh fruit fairly quickly. If we are not able to produce good spiritual fruit, sometimes it is blocked and cut off so that more can grow or some can get cut off to become full again.
Adams first “job” was a fun game to play — name the animals. God didn’t want to name the animals, Adam named the animals. He was fully aware of God’s presence because that was the first thing God did with Adam, placed him in His own Presence. Then “the enemy” comes and deceives EVE like “you aren’t like God, but you can be like God!” aka self-worship. She listened because she was not in God’s Presence, and she was out of her husband’s presence -and so they ate some bad fruit and disobeyed. God said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it, All the days of your life”
The modern word “toil” means:
- Hard work, especially work that makes you feel physically tired. 1
- To labor continuously or work strenuously, often resulting in exhausting effort.
- It can also refer to exhausting labor or effort in a more general sense
יָגֵעַ יָגַע verb toil, grow or be weary (Late Hebrew id.; Assyrian êgû, grow weary; Arabic

(have pain, suffer) —
Later in Genesis, ” Now he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the Lord has cursed.” Jesus tells us in the end times, it will be like the days of Noah. Hebrews 4 tells us to enter His rest, but many do not enter. I hope many enter. I hope many go beyond threshing and continue to seek His face above all things.
Jesus says “Come to me all who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest.”
So, in reality, He does provide the rest. I can only find rest in Christ alone.
This year has been a lot of toil. I have had burnout from some demanding jobs. I have had a relationship that was so valuable to me but has broken my spirit. I have lost 30 pounds in the past month. Touch deprivation and its consequences are a real serious matter. I realized the other day that I can’t remember the last time he had given me a kiss. I don’t remember the last time he naturally gave me a hug. I needed more than bare minimum of intimacy and the love was lost somewhere. That is all I will say at this time while I process it all. Got fired from a job– to find a better fitting job the next day.
So, Haven on Earth will continue to grow it has been pruned back to its roots. The Master Gardener has adjusted the field and now I will keep ajusting, adapting. abiding in the flow. I will love and hope to find those that receive love well and reciprocate. I hope to find the catalysts, the reciprocators, the healers, the dreamers, the visionaries, the creatives, all the treasures in the next chapters ahead. No plan B. Just Faith.
Deep calls unto Deep.
